Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 Jul 2026.
This policy explains what personal data ClearView collects, why, and what rights you have over it. It applies to Customers, Contractors, and anyone else whose data we process through the Platform.
1. Who we are
- ClearView ("we", "us") is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact us about privacy matters at hello@clearview-platform.co.uk.
2. What we collect
We only collect what's needed to run the Platform — matching Jobs to Contractors, invoicing, and keeping accounts secure. We don't currently use advertising or analytics tracking cookies.
| Category | Examples |
| Account details | Name, email, phone, password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text) |
| Customer/billing details | Billing address, city, country, tax reference, credit terms, invoice and payment history |
| Contractor details | Trade, service area, business name, certifications and their expiry dates (where provided), reputation data (ratings, jobs completed, response times) |
| Job details | Job description, location (and its approximate map coordinates, generated automatically from the location text you provide — see Section 4), photos and videos you choose to upload, messages between Customer and Contractor |
| Payment data | When you pay an Invoice online, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details directly — we never see or store your full card number. See Section 4. |
| Technical/security data | Login session cookie (see Section 6), login timestamps, IP address for security/fraud-prevention purposes |
3. Why we process it, and our legal basis
- To provide the service (performance of a contract) — matching Jobs to Contractors, processing Quotes, generating and collecting Invoices, sending account and job-related notifications.
- To meet legal obligations — keeping financial records for UK tax/accounting purposes, responding to lawful requests from authorities.
- Legitimate interests — keeping the Platform secure, preventing fraud and abuse, improving matching and the service generally. Where we rely on legitimate interests we've considered that this doesn't override your own rights and interests.
- Where we ask for optional information (e.g. a newsletter opt-in, if introduced later) we'll rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
4. Third parties we share data with
We use a small number of service providers to run the Platform. We don't sell personal data to anyone.
- Supabase — hosts our database and file storage (job photos/videos).
- OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — when you enter a location for a Job or service area, we send that location text to this free, third-party geocoding service to get approximate map coordinates. No other personal data is sent with it.
- Our hosting providers — Render (backend) and Vercel (public site).
- Stripe — when you choose to pay an Invoice online via "Pay Now," Stripe processes your card payment directly on their own hosted checkout page. We never see or store your full card number; Stripe returns only confirmation that payment succeeded. See Stripe's own privacy policy for how they handle your payment data.
- Email delivery, if configured, to send account and invoice-related emails.
- The other party to a Job — when a Contractor is invited to or accepts a Job, we share what's needed for them to do the work (Customer name, job address/description); when a Customer accepts a Quote, we share the Contractor's business details.
5. How long we keep it
- Financial records (Invoices, payment history) are kept for 6 years, in line with standard UK tax record-keeping requirements.
- Account data is kept while your account is active, and for up to 2 years afterwards in case you return or for legal/accounting reasons, then deleted or anonymized.
6. Cookies
- We use one essential cookie to keep you logged in (a signed session cookie). It's required for the Platform to work and isn't used for advertising or tracking. We don't currently use analytics or advertising cookies.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Ask us to delete your data, subject to what we need to keep for legal/accounting reasons
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
To exercise any of these, contact us at hello@clearview-platform.co.uk. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
8. Children
- The Platform is intended for business use by adults (Customers commissioning work, and Contractors running a trade business) and isn't directed at children.
9. Changes to this policy
- We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version here with an updated date, and tell you directly if a change is significant.
